Sheikh Hamdan, Elon Musk discuss future technologies in Dubai
Talks focus on innovation, artificial intelligence and sustainable global development
DUBAI – His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, met Elon Musk, CEO of X, SpaceX, Tesla and Starlink, to discuss the future of technology and innovation.
The meeting was held at Sheikh Hamdan’s majlis in Nad Al Sheba. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the UAE, was also present.

The discussions focused on the rapid technological transformations taking place globally and the role of innovation in supporting comprehensive development. Both sides explored how emerging technologies and new applications can be leveraged to address shared challenges and contribute to progress and prosperity at an international level.

Global transformation
The meeting reviewed the UAE and Dubai’s growing position as global destinations for technology and innovation. Dubai’s approach to adopting advanced solutions within a long-term development vision was highlighted, supported by partnerships with leading international technology companies. This model has enabled the emirate to play a significant role in shaping the future of emerging technologies across multiple sectors.

Sheikh Hamdan underscored that Dubai’s vision is rooted in using innovation to serve humanity and improve quality of life. Discussions reflected a shared emphasis on technology as a driver of sustainable development, with a focus on solutions that can deliver long-term benefits across economies and societies.
Innovation ecosystem
Participants also examined the legislative and regulatory frameworks that have supported early adoption of advanced technologies in the UAE. Forward-looking policies, combined with incentives designed to attract specialised global talent, were highlighted as key factors behind Dubai’s strong innovation ecosystem.\

The UAE’s ability to nurture expertise and encourage the development of new ideas has earned it international recognition. These efforts have helped create an environment where innovation can thrive, supporting both established technology firms and emerging enterprises.
Digital leadership
The meeting further addressed the advanced digital infrastructure that underpins Dubai’s growing digital economy. This infrastructure continues to strengthen the emirate’s competitiveness and support its ambition to remain at the forefront of global digital transformation.

Dubai and the UAE’s integrated strategy for artificial intelligence and future technologies was also reviewed. This approach aims to enhance economic competitiveness, raise overall living standards, and establish global benchmarks in innovation-led development.
Shared vision
The Crown Prince reaffirmed that sustained investment in human capital, combined with strong global partnerships, remains central to the UAE’s development strategy. Elon Musk praised the UAE’s forward-looking leadership and acknowledged its progress in technology, artificial intelligence and space exploration, expressing optimism about its continued advancement.
The meeting was attended by Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications and Deputy Managing Director of the Dubai Future Foundation, and Helal Saeed Almarri, Director General of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism.
